Tips from the Divas...

We were fortunate enough to be invited to a Color Trends 2009 - 2010 program/CEU in Wilmington last week offered by Pittsburgh Paints. We were the only designers from Raleigh so we really got a "leg up" on the rest!

The course had not been taught before so we felt quite honored to have been asked and we were among the first in the nation to see these color combinations and trends.

We learned that trends last 3-5 years. Once a trend is established, it takes 6 months for it to get to the runway and 18 months to be seen in fashion and design. We are most interested in the color trends.

If you stop and think about it, there are no new colors. They reappear with different tints and names and are used in different combinations. Our world and what is going on in it plays a major role in what colors are trendy now. Earth and Sky colors are more popular than ever. Earth, in their program, is divided into two palettes, "Indie" (representing fresh thinking and cutting edge) and "Journey" (our lives in an "off center" world). Sky palettes are divided into "Wonderland" (showing opposites attract by being simple and ornate) and "Avatar" (looking into the future with an almost cartoon like flare).
