Tips from the Divas...
We Love Wood Floors!
Wood floors are so popular these days and we do enjoy specifying them. There are so many species of wood, stain colors, plank widths and finishes to choose from that there is a wood floor out there for everyone. We always encourage caring for your floors according to the manufacturer's suggestions. There are some plain old common sense wood care rules to follow.
- Vacuum wood floors with a brush...no heavy beater bars are needed.
- Protect your wood floors from the sun. If window treatments are not wanted, consider tinting windows to keep the floors protected from UV rays and fading.
- Use area rugs at entryways to protect floors from wet feet and gritty dirt that can scratch or accumulate.
- Use the cleaning products and processes recommended by the flooring manufacturer.
- Be kind to your wood floors. Put felt on chair and table legs, any furniture that might slide. Don't drag furniture when moving it and avoid wearing high heels on bare wood floors.
If cared for properly, wood floors will last for many years and will be a beautiful addition to your home.
Red!
Those of you who know us know that color is our love. Since color is so important to our moods, feelings and behavior, color selection is not a choice to be taken lightly. Once a color is chosen, it is critical to get the correct hue or shade. Then the combination of colors used throughout the space for "flow" becomes the next important selection.
Since we have made it all the way to February of 2009, we have decided to highlight RED, the color associated with Valentines, Love and Passion...not to mention a very difficult color to specify for interior spaces.
RED is emotionally intense....a color to be taken seriously. It actually stimulates a faster heartbeat, quicker breathing and increased circulation. I know that when I think of RED, I think of love, hearts, passion, danger, anger and violence. No single color can evoke such conflicting images. It's no wonder that cupid and the devil are associated with RED!
Thus, the rub... be careful in the use of RED.
We are ALWAYS careful of the shade we use and where we use it. It is POWERFUL and can evoke strong emotions where you may (or may not) want them! As a general rule, we prefer RED as an accent wall color or an accent / accessory color. Always handle RED carefully, we don't want you to get burned!
